Destin Minus the Beach and Road Traffic
The average high/low for August is 89/71 which in any estimation is perfect beach weather. The crowds often form in June/July because they are the typical “beach season” and are less humid than August, but do not let the humidity scare you away! The water temperature will be the perfect blend of refreshing and comforting while the afternoon rain helps you to cool off from the heat.
Great Time to Visit Before School Starts
If your kids are experiencing a bit of cabin fever, it might be time to get them out of the house and on the beach this August. Depending on where you live school could start end of August or right after Labor Day (early September) so getting a weekend of letting the kids go out and play in the sand, in the state parks, or on the water could transform your back to school life.
Events in Destin in August
Destin is a fun town for great events, and two of our favorites are on the calendar in August!
- The Emerald Coast Poker Run is a charity event that raises millions of dollars for local kids in need. A poker run is when boats visit five to seven checkpoints and draw a playing card at each one. The objective is to have the best poker hand possible at the end of the run, but like poker, it is a game of chance. The event is open to all boats but has placed an emphasis on “power boats” in past years. You do not need a boat to take part in the fun! You can purchase tickets to join everyone else at the Poker Run party to help support the kids and have a good time.
- Paddle at the Park is a race on Henderson State Beach State Park open to hard-bodied and inflatable kayaks. There is a 1-mile, 3-mile, 6-mile, and kids’ fun race, but you do have to register beforehand in the proper category.
