3 Things To Do in Point Washington State Forest

Biking and Hiking

The best way to see the longleaf pine flatwoods of Point Washington State Forest is either on a bicycle or by foot. If you plan on doing any of the five marked trails we do recommend bringing water and sunscreen as the heat can be deceptive in the forest. There are two moderate trails that are over 10 miles long, two easy trails over 4 miles, and one poorly marked trail that is only half a mile.

Sights to see: There are several plants and animals that are rare such as the American kestrel, gopher tortoise, and white-topped pitcher plant that you will see on your hike/ride!

Canoeing and Kayaking

Point Washington State Forest has several bayous that empty into either Western Lake or Choctawhatchee Bay, but most are not really suited to proper kayaking. If you are looking to kayak you would be best served finding a public launch in adjoining Grayton Beach State Park in Western Lake or Choctawhatchee Bay.

Alternative: You can also rent an airboat tour that will take you around the State Forest area and see dolphins, alligators, and more without having to paddle!

Beaching and Fishing

Grayton and Seagrove Beach are adjacent to Point Washington State Forest which makes them a great cool-down spot for after you visit the forest. If you are looking to fish you can hike to several great spots within the park or slightly adjacent such as Alligator Lake, Western Lake, or Big Redfish Lake.

You Can Also: There are fishing charters that leave out of Grayton Beach that will take you out into the ocean for King Mackerel, Grouper, and red snapper if the fish inland are not biting.
