VACATION GUIDE

How to Get from St. Louis, MO to Destin, Florida

Strap in because this 12-hour drive is not for the faint of heart! If you do not feel like driving, you are more than welcome to book a roundtrip flight for around $200 to $300 per person, but with a bigger family, the cost can quickly become unreasonable.  You can either take I-55 through the great state of Missouri and into I-155 and I-22 in Tennesse, Mississippi, and Alabama respectively, or I-57, 24, and 65 through Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama respectively depending on what you like to see along your drives.

If you are looking for a flat trip through the outskirts of the forest we recommend the former, but if you want a jaunt through the mountains we recommend the latter. You can follow the instructions for both routes, below.

A Resort Town that is Full of Surprises

If you’ve never heard of Destin, it is a city found along a stretch of the Florida Gulf coastline connected by the scenic 30A highway. While not quite a town in the “30A,” Destin has a lot in common with its sister coastal towns including communities such as Rosemary Beach, Santa Rosa Beach, and Sandestin.

Despite being a collection of smaller resort towns, Emerald Beach is home to numerous bike trails, birdwatching opportunities, world-class beaches, intercoastal waterways, award-winning festivals, and hidden gems to explore while you are here.

Destin Entertainment and Wildlife

Whether it is fishing for Cobia in the Cobia World Finals, eating barbecue at Smoke on the Coast, or celebrating the holidays at the Annual Destin Christmas Boat Parade you will never run out of fun events to book your trip calendar around!

Biking, kayaking, and boating are all popular things to do along the coast or in the intercoastal waterways, especially at one of the local parks like Point Washington State Forest or Topsail Hill Preserve. Don’t feel limited by what you brought and rent a boat to explore Choctawhatchee Bay, where you’ll find friendly wildlife and picture-perfect sunsets. If the kids want to splash around somewhere that is not the beach, try out Big Kahuna’s Waterpark where you can go down over 40 slides, rides, and pools!
