Find the Perfect Time to Visit Destin, Florida
When is the best time to visit Destin, FL? Well, there really isn’t a one. Each season in our Sunshine State paradise offers a unique experience for all ages. Check out our descriptions of each season below for a look at when you and your family should visit.
Winter is easily the most unique season to visit Destin. It’s largely split between two different demographics. The beginning of winter (end of November through December) is the end of our offseason. This is one of the best times to visit Destin, FL, if you want to enjoy all that our area has to offer without having to deal with the summer crowds. Temperatures remain in the 70s and 60s throughout these months, which still feel incredible under the warm Florida sunshine. The Destin Boat Parade and New Year’s Eve Party on the Harbor are a couple of fun celebrations that take place during this time of the year.
The rest of the winter season (January, February, and early March) consists mostly of snowbirds flocking from the Northeast. You’ll find a large portion of this crowd is 65 and older. While this is still a good time to visit, there isn’t much to do for families until spring break.
Speaking of spring break, this is when the busy season begins. While that may be a negative connotation in most areas, Destin is still a fantastic place to visit when the crowds start to roll in. There are so many ways you can craft the perfect day in the spring. You can start your day off with a long walk on the beach to watch the sunrise. Grab a couple of chairs and stake your claim on the sugar-white sands, where you can spend the day playing in the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf, build sandcastles, and enjoy a game of bocce ball.
If you enjoy hiking, there are a few parks like the Grayton Beach State Park and Topsail Hill Reserve State Park that provide fun daily adventures. There are tons of spots to grab lunch, dinner, or a sunset drink (LuLu’s Destin is a fan favorite). Of course, you can always grab some food from a local grocery store to cook in your Harmony Beach Vacations rental. After all, there’s nothing like relaxing on your patio or porch on a beautiful spring night! Spring truly is one of the best times to visit Destin, FL!
Summer is the busiest time in the Florida Panhandle. Even with the crowds of people relaxing on the beach, this is still arguably the best time to visit Destin, FL. Average temperatures in the 70s and 80s (although it feels like the 90s with humidity) accompany gorgeous sunny skies, providing visitors with the opportunity to spend the entire day on the beach, cruising around Choctawhatchee Bay on a boat rental, or heading over to one of the entertainment and shopping complexes with the kids.
The Thursday night Fireworks on the Harbor events in June and July are excellent opportunities to soak up the fun and excitement during a summer beach trip. While large crowds can be a deterrent for some, Destin’s dining, entertainment, and outdoor scenes (especially the beaches) make our coastal paradise well worth the summer visit.
Fall is somewhat of an in-between time here, but we like to call it our “Secret Season.” Fall weather usually means cool, crisp temperatures and pretty foliage. But we trade out pumpkin lattes and falling leaves for sunny skies and tropical drinks with average temperatures in the 70s and 80s. This an opportune season for visitors to get out and enjoy the beach, local shopping centers, and beer, wine, and seafood festivals in the area. For those who dislike crowds, this is the best time to visit Destin, FL.
